FACILITIES: “Ernest Thomas II” is a 70ft long narrowboat with accommodation for up to 12 passengers who sit in comfortable, movable chairs or, in good weather, out on the foredeck: wheelchairs can be accommodated. In order to transport wheelchairs, or for those who have difficulty with steps, there is an electric lift between the foredeck and main cabin. All round visibility is excellent. There is a toilet, central heating, and a fully equipped galley.

ELIGIBLE GROUPS: The boat is intended for the use of senior citizens, the handicapped, the disabled, all youth groups, but especially those from residential homes, special schools, etc. It is not available for private parties.

MOORING: The boat is moored at the Cee-Ders Club, Castlecroft Lane, Wolverhampton where there is ample parking with a good surface on which to take wheelchairs from a vehicle to the boat. The club is 1/4 mile from the junction of Castlecroft Lane with Windmill Lane. (Birmingham A-Z page 28, A2). Windmill Lane leaves the Bridgnorth Road, A454, opposite the Mermaid Inn.

CRUISES: These vary from 4 to 8 hours but can be extended by arrangement. On the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal we can go north to Hatherton Junction or south to Stourton Junction. On the Shropshire Union Canal we can go as far as Brewood.

CHARITABLE STATUS: The South Staffordshire Narrowboat Company Ltd is a registered charity - No 1000868 - and is largely dependent upon donations from businesses, organisations and private citizens from the South Staffordshire and Wolverhampton areas. The boat is operated and maintained by a group of unpaid volunteers.
